Hongyi Xiannü

Hongyi Xiannü (C. azalea ×  'Xiayong Guose'). China authorized variety number: 20240125. Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.289. HAR-08-4., a cross seedling (DGS-No.9) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiayong Guose'. Flowers bright red, occasionally with white stripes, fading to light red in hot summer, rose- double form, sometimes peony form can appear in winter, medium to large size, 8.5-11.5cm across and 5.0cm deep with 35-40 petals arranged tightly in more than 4 rows, petals obovate. Leaves dark green, dense, heavy leathery, ovate, margins nearly smooth. Plant compact, dwarf, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “The Fairy Dressing Red”.
