Hongzhuang Yiren

Hongzhuang Yiren (C. azalea × Non-reticulata hybrid 'Dragon Fireball'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.156. HA-67-8., a cross seedling (DLHZ-No.11) of C. azalea × Non-reticulata hybrid 'Dragon Fireball'. Flowers bright red, rose-double to peony form, medium to large size, 9.0-11.5cm across and 5.0cm deep with 18-24 large petals arranged in 2-4 rows, petals broad obovate, stamens clustered and mixed with central small petals. Leaves dark green, leathery, broad elliptic, slightly twisted, margins shallowly serrate. Plant upright, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Beloved Lady Dressed in Red”.
