Nakayama, 1851, Senkaōden, vol.5: Minagawa, Iza’emon, 1885, Nisshōen Chabaifu; Nihon Shubyō, 1910: A white variegated form of Hiryū. Originated in Japan. Different readings: ‘Hoshihiryō’, ‘Hoshi-hiryu’. Synonyms: ‘Hiryū-nishiki’, ‘Spotted Hiryu’, ‘Shibori-hiryū’, ‘Hiryū-boshi’. Corruption of Japanese name: ‘Hoshi-Hiro’. Hoshihiryū was first brought to USA by Professor E. Fenerosa in 1906 and planted in Spring Hill, Mobile, Alabama. See Encyclopedia of Camellias in Colour, vol.I, 1972, pl.561, p.219 & 392. Hakoda, JCS., 1987, Tsubaki, No.26, p.50 has Hiryū and Hoshihiryū as synonymous, but in Japan and the West, Hoshihiryū is used to designate the white variegated form of Hiryū. Hoshi-hiryu 星飞竜(Spotted hiryū)。(C.x vernalis)春茶梅。1851,日本。Hiryu (飞竜)病毒感染入白斑品种。同种异名:Hiryū-nishiki (飞竜锦)、Shibori-hiryū (绞飞竜)。此品种1906年传入美国亚拉巴马州。
