Huojiang Xiyue

Huojiang Xiyue (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari  Taige'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.281. HAR-06-9., a cross seedling (DTG-No.49) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari  Taige'. Flowers red, as flowers opening, gradually appear some purple hue, occasionally with a few white markings on the petal surfaces, semi-double to peony form, medium to large size, 9.5- 12.0cm across and 5.0cm deep with 18-23 large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals long obovare, central small petals semi-erected and mixed with stamens. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant compact and growth slower. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “The Joy of Winning an Award”.
