Encyclopedia of Camellias in Colour, vol.I, 1972, pl.12, p.42, description, p.293: A large, red, Higo camellia, 5-6 petals with a spreading burst of stamens with yellow anthers and pinkish red filaments. Original tree is in the Iwaya Shrine, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, and is designated a natural monument of Fukuoka Prefec­ture. Resembles the Higo Kumagai.
