American Camellia Yearbook, 1981, p.100, Reg. No.1736: A large to very large, bright red, variegated white, semi-double to rose form double C.japonica chance seedling, blooms mid-season to late. Originated by Ted Alfter, Bakersfield, California, USA. The 10 year old seedling first bloomed 1973. Average flower size is 12.5 cm across x 7.5 cm deep with 30-40 petals. Plant growth is upright, average and rapid in rate with dark green leaves 11 cm x 6 cm.
