Liuguang Yicai

Liuguang Yicai (C. azalea × 'Dawn's Early Light'). China authorized variety number: 20240126. Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.120. HA-58-1., a cross seedling (DDW-No.1) of C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dawn's Early Light'. Flowers peach red to red, occasionally with white stripes or markings at the central petals, as the flowers bloom, central petals gradually changing into light red, semi-double to peony form, large to very large size, 12.0-14.5cm across and 6.5cm deep with 25-28 exterior large petals arranged in 5-7 rows, petals broad obovate, central small petals erected and mixed with stamens. Leaves dark green, leathery, elliptic, margins shallowly serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Brilliant Color & Glitzy Light”.
