Longzhang Fengzi

Longzhang Fengzi (C. japonica 'Juxiang' × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiameng Wenqing'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.441. HAR-37-4., a cross seedling (JXWQ-No.9) of C. japonica 'Juxiang' × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiameng Wenqing'. Flowers purple red with slight fragrance, occasionally with faint white stripes, peony form, large to very large size, 11.0-13.2cm across and 6.0cm deep with 18-20 large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, wavy, rolled outward, central small petals wrinkled, mixed with clustered stamens, filaments pale pink, anthers pale yellow. Leaves deep green, heavy leathery, elliptic, cuneate at the base. Plant compact and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-winter and continues to bloom until the spring of the following year. The cultivar name means “Dragon’s Literate & Phoenix’s Posture”.
