Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.224, p.113 illustration, p.157 description: Leaves, small, thin, broadly elliptic, acuminate, manifestly serrate, 8.5-11 cm long x 3.5-5 cm wide, petioles hairy, 8 mm long. Flowers double or tend to be anemone form, red (Claret rose 021 /1). Petals, 10-18, the largest 4.5 cm x 4.2 cm wide, cleft. Stamens in a single compact tube or several fascicles with small, fan-shaped petaloids, up to 81, intermingled with large, erect, inner petals up to 8. Filaments light cadmium yellow, rosy to base. Mid-season flowering. Originated by Mr Minakami, Yatsuo-machi, Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
