Mohong Taige (C. japonica). China Regn. #2020-310. China Flowers & Horticulture, 2020, No.12, p.57. This cultivar was bred by Fei Jianguo, Feng Shucheng, Zhang Yali and others in the Shanghai Botanical Garden. It was a infraspecific hybrid C.japonica 'Mohong Liuhai' as the female parent and 'Zaochun Dahongqiu' as male parent in the 1990s. There are about 13 bracts and sepals, yellow-green. The flower is red (RHS 53B-C), with occasional white spots on large petals, small petals with radiating white stripes, supporting osmanthus shape, flower diameter 8-13 cm, flower thickness 4.0-7.5 cm, outer ring large petals about 8-20 One piece, 4.0-6.0 cm long, 3.0-5.5 cm wide, petals of medium thickness, slightly concave at the top of the petals, occasionally with heavy serrated nicks at the middle and lower edges of the petals, petals obovate, few stamens, anthers or all stamens petalized; The room is glabrous, the stigma is 2.0 to 2.5 cm long, the stigma is 3 to 5 lobed, the division is deep to shallow, the style is hairy, multiple deformities, yellow to dark red, and low pistil. The leaves are dark green, elliptical, hard and thick, 6.0 to 13.2 cm long, 3.0 to 7.6 cm wide, with coarsely toothed leaf margins, wide and wedge-shaped leaf bases, acuminate or broad short tail tips, and petioles about 1.0 cm long. Twigs are reddish brown. Shrubs to small trees, growing vigorously, half open, dense branches and leaves. Flowering period is early to middle, from early November to early February in Shanghai area.
