Pangdajie

Pangdajie (C. amplexicaulis × C. chuangstoensis). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.492. HB-37-1., a cross seedling (BCHZ-No.2) of C. amplexicaulis × C. chuangstoensis. Flowers pink to deep pink with hazy white edges, the base of petal back surfaces purple- red, semi-double form, medium size, 8.0-9.0cm across and 7.0cm deep with 13-15 petals arranged in 3 rows, petals broad round, thick fleshy, stamens united into a short column, flowers fall whole. Tender leaves purple-red, mature leaves green, heavy leathery, long elliptic, midribs and lateral veins sunken, no lobes at the base, margins shallowly and sharply serrate, petioles 0.8cm in length. Plant upright, branches spread and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-winter, fully blooms in spring. The cultivar name means “Fat Eldest Sster”.
