American Camellia Yearbook, 1972, p.134, Reg. No.1200: An 11 year old chance C.japonica seedling that first bloomed 1962; originated by W. Lee Poe, Birmingham, Alabama. Plant growth is upright, spreading and rapid with dark green, 10.5 cm long x 5.5 cm wide. The bloom, 13-15 cm across x 5 cm. deep is dark red with 20-40 crinkled petals. The anthers are yellow with 8-10 petaloids. Blooms early to mid-season.
