van Houtte Catalogue, 1851, 44:24: Magnificent formal double, very round, vivid pink petals, all splashed with white and a central white line; compact, upright growth. Blooms mid-season. Originated in Belgium by Defresne. Synonyms: ‘Prince Leopold’, ‘Leopold I’. Orthographic errors: ‘Roy Leopold’, ‘Rou Leopold’, ‘Rio Leopold’. Received an F.C.C. from the RHS., in 1865.
