Shiyue Hongtou

Shiyue Hongtou (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.299. HAR-10-2., a cross seedling (DHW-No.3) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers red to deep red, slightly with waxy luster, semi-double form, medium size, 8.5- 10.0cm across and 5.3cm deep with 15-18 petals arranged in 2-3 rows, petals broad obovate, edges rolled inward, stamens slightly united at the base, anthers occasionally white. Leaves dark green, leathery, narrow elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins smooth. Plant compact, bushy and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Through in October”.
