» English Description

Minagawa, 1956, Chinkashū; Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.138, p.69, description, p.129: Snow camellia of variegated leaves. Leaves elliptic or narrowly ellip­tic, flat on the upper surface, acutely denticulate on the margin; petioles hairy. Deep green, var­iegated light yellow along the midrib and also along the lateral veins. Flowers rose (Claret rose 021/1), single, with 5 petals incurved on the lateral sides. Stamens normal, yellow, in a loose group. Flowers mid-season to late. Originated in the Niigata Prefecture, Japan. There is another Taiyō from the Nagoya district that is similar to Akashigata.
