Hazlewood Nursery Catalogue, 1945, as ‘Thompsonii’: White, flecked pink, medium size to large, full peony form. Vigorous, open growth. Flowers early to mid-season. A camellia of unknown origin, originating as a labelled plant at Camden Park, NSW, Australia. See illustration, p.348, Hertrich, 1954, Camellias in the Huntington Gardens, vol. I. Sport: ‘Thompsonii Rosea’. Note: The name ‘Thompsonii’ for this cultivar was originally let stand in the ICR as it is the one widely known, although the original ‘Thompsonii’ cultivar of The Floricultural Cabinet still exists at the Villa Taranto, Pallanza, Italy. From 2019, the ICS moved to remove duplicate cultivar names to bring the nomenclature more in line with international horticultural standards, hence the name for this cultivar was changed to ‘Thompsonii (white)’.
