Xingyuan Hongxia

Xingyuan Hongxia (C. japonica 'Collettii' × C. azalea). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.73. HA-24-3., a cross seedling (KLD-No.3) of C. japonica 'Collettii' × C. azalea. Flowers red to deep red, rose-double to peony form, medium to large size, 9.5-12.0cm across and 5.5cm deep with 21 large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, more than 20 small petals at the center, stamens clustered, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, broad elliptic, margins shallowly serrate. Plant compact, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. Mark: The hybrid is bred by Shanghai Camellia Garden and its patent right has been obtained from National Forestry and Grassland Administration. The cultivar name means “Xingyuan’s Red Glow”.

星源红霞 Camellia ‘Xingyuan Hongxia’ 。刘信凯、钟乃盛、柯欢、武艳芳主编，2023，《第二部四季茶花杂交新品种彩色图集》，浙江科学技术出版社，第73页。 HA-24-3.杂交组合：红山茶品种‘客来邸’× 杜鹃红山茶，杂交苗编号：KLD-No.3。花朵红色至深红色，偶尔出现白斑，玫瑰重瓣型至牡丹型，中型至大型花，花径9.5-12.0cm，花朵厚5.5cm，大花瓣21枚，呈3轮排列，花瓣阔倒卵形，中部小花瓣20枚以上，雄蕊簇生，开花稠密。叶片浓绿色，叶背面灰绿色，厚革质，阔椭圆形，长9.0-12.0cm,宽5.0-6.0cm，边缘叶齿浅。植株紧凑，枝条稠密，生长旺盛。夏末始花，秋、冬季盛花，春季零星开花。注：本品种由上海茶花园培育，已成功获得国家林业和草原局专利授权。
