Statistics from the DICR

When you enter the official website of DICR, you can see that there are options for Statistics ▼ in the main menu bar at the top, as shown in Figure 1. In the drop-down menu for statistics, you can select the country and Year.

Statistics ▼—Country

From the country option in the statistics, you go to Map and number of cultivars in each country, as shown in Figure 2.

We will see a world map, a statistical chart, a list of camellia varieties.

On this page, the first is the world map titled Map and number of cultivars in each country, which is based on real-time statistics based on the database, and can intuitively see the total number of camellia varieties registered in each country.

There is a download button to the left of the title to download the map.

The areas marked in the map are the countries where camellia cultivars are registered, the gray area is the country without camellia cultivar registration, and the color ruler below represents the number of camellia varieties, with the least blue and the most red.

Moving the mouse over a country will light up and display the total number of camellia varieties registered in that country next to the mouse, along with the quantity color and value in the color bar below, as shown in Figure 2-1.

Below the map is a horizontal bar chart of countries and number of cultivars, as shown in Figure 3.

It is ranked by all countries that have registered camellia varieties in descending order of the total number of registrations, as well as real-time ranking according to camellia varieties in the database.

When the mouse moves to each bar, the total number of countries and camellia varieties appears next to the mouse, and a light gray box appears in the bar, as shown in Figure 3-1. If you click on the gray box, the search window for national camellia varieties below will automatically search for entries about all camellia varieties in that country, and click View to see a detailed description of the variety.

Of course, you can also select the country search cultivar by yourself, as shown in Figure 3-2.

Statistics ▼—Year

If you want to view the statistics of the year of the camellia cultivars, click the Statistics option in the main menu bar that is always at the top and select the year from the drop-down menu to enter the page shown in Figure 4.

On the page of statistics about year, we can see a longitudinal bar chart titled The number of cultivars produced each year in ten countries, a search box about the world, and a list of camellia cultivars.

This is a histogram of the number of varieties on the vertical axis and the year on the horizontal axis, and each country is represented by a different color and stacked to form the number of global camellia varieties in a year. When the mouse is moved over a bar, a light gray box appears as a marker for the bar, and the number of camellia cultivars registered in each country in the vintage interval is displayed next to the mouse, as shown in Figure 5.

Next to the title there are five buttons for charts, as shown in Figure 5-1.

The ‘🗎’ button

This button represents the data view, as shown in Figure 5-2, you can view the data of camellia cultivars registered in each country in each year, and click Close in the lower right corner after viewing.

The '' button

This button means to switch to a line chart, click this button to switch the original bar chart to a line chart, and the line chart can be more intuitive to view the rising and falling trend.

When the mouse is moved over the vertex, a light gray box will appear as a mark for the vintage interval, and the number of camellia cultivars registered in each country in the vintage interval will be displayed next to the mouse, as shown in Figure 5-3.

The '📊' button

This button indicates switching to a histogram, and when the mouse is moved over the bar, a light gray box will appear as a marker for the vintage interval, and the number of camellia varieties registered in each country in the vintage interval will be displayed next to the mouse, as shown in Figure 5.

 

 

The '🗘' button

This button indicates restore, and when clicked, it can return to the initial state as shown in Figure 5.

 

 

The '📥' button

This button means to save as a image, click to save the chart as a picture to your computer, you can download the data view, line chart or bar chart as needed.

 

If you only want to see data for one or a few countries, click on the color block for each country at the bottom of the header to gray it, and the chart will not show data for that country.

As shown in Figure 6, the color blocks of other countries are only left with data from the United States and China, of course, you can light up the color blocks of other countries at any time.

The same is true when switching to the line chart, click on the color line of each country below the title and turn it gray, the line chart below will not show data for that country, as shown in Figure 6-1, leaving only data for the United States, China, and Italy.

However, the Data View button can only display statistics for ten countries. If needed, click '🗘' the restore  button to return to the initial  histogram chart as shown in Figure 5.

Whether it is a line chart or a histogram chart, clicking on a bar or vertex of a different color will automatically fill in the country and year interval in the World search window, and search for all camellia cultivars registered in the year interval in the country.

As shown in Figure 7, clicking on the color representing China in the bar chart from 2000 to  2005 will automatically search all camellia cultivars registered between 2000 and 2005, and totally 143 results found.

Of course, you can also search by selecting the country and year range by yourself.

In the list of variety entries, the first column indicates the name of camellia, the second column indicates the scientific name, the third column is the year of registration, the fourth column is the description of camellia cultivars, click the View in the last column to see the cultivar introduction in details.

When the mouse moves to the Description of a certain symbol, a drop-down arrow '∨' will appear,  click '' to expand the description of that symbol in the list of variety entries, as shown in Figures 7-1 and 7-2.
