American Camellia Yearbook, 1955, p.334, Reg. No.220: A 15 year old chance seedling, originated by Fruitland Nurseries, Augusta, Georgia, USA. First flowered 1943. Plant growth average, upright and compact. Leaves broad-ovate, convex. The ‘American Beauty’ red flowers, 10-12.5 cm across, are incompletely imbricated, similar to ‘Mathotiana’, (Julia Drayton). Mid-season flowering. Colour photo on front cover of Fruitland Nurseries Catalogue, 1957-1958.
