Furong Cha

Furongcha. (Camellia japonica)  Synonym: None  Originate: Sichuan  Characteristics: Plant habit medium vigorous, open crown, medium branching, large branching angle, shoots most spreading upwards. Leaves yellowish green, elliptic, flat, glossy, with apex apiculate, base broad cuneate, serration deep, measured 7 cm to 8.5 cm long by 4 cm to 4.5 cm wide. Calyxes open. Flowers bright red. Petals broadly elliptic with notched apex, venation depressed, 23 segments imbricated loosely. Irregular petaloids by some stamens, most stamens normal and folded with irregular petaloid petals, semi-double, dense floral quantity, diameter 9 cm to 11cm wide. Flowering February to April, blooming in March.  Key points of identification: Leaves yellowish green, petals imbricated loosely.
