[Characteristics] A high-yielding variety that is valuable as a compounding ingredient that has a habit of being black.

[Developer] Kagoshima Prefectural Tea Experiment Station (Kagoshima Prefectural Agricultural Development Center Tea Industry Department)

[History] In 1932, at the Kagoshima Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, mating was carried out with the introduced species Ai2 from India as the mother and the native species Nka03 from Kagoshima as the father, and selected from the seedling group. In 1933, it was tested in an excellent primary tree determination test for black tea, and its superiority was recognized. In 1940, it was named Deer Atssum Mating No. 1. In 1953, it was registered in the No. 13 forest in Japan and was named'Hatsumomiji'.

[Early] Mesozoic species. It is almost the same as'Yabukita' in both germination and plucking period.

[Morphological characteristics] The shape of the tree is a little upright, with strong tree vigor and maximum stocking. The arrangement of tea buds during the plucking period is good. A bud type with a large number of buds and a large bud weight.

[Cutting rooting] Good.

[Good or bad initial growth] Good. Is a variety that is very easy to grow,

[Method for tailoring young trees] The first pruning is carried out at a position slightly lower than that of'Yabukita' because the shape of the tree is slightly upright and the tree vigor is strong. After that, follow the “Yabukita”.

[Quality] Tea quality is medium. The water color is crimson and slightly faint with a mild aroma. The taste is strong, but it is refreshing, and it is good after the dull place. Fermentability is slightly poor.

【来歴】1932に年鹿児島県農事試験場においてインドからの導入種Ai2を母,鹿児島県の在来種Nka03を父とした交配が行なわれ,その実生群中から選抜された。1933年紅茶優良原樹決定試験に供試され,優秀性が認められて1940年に鹿アツサム交配1号と名付けられた。1953年に荼農林13号に登録され,はつもみじと命名された。

【早晩性】中生種。萌芽期,摘採期ともにやぶきたとほぼ同じ。

【形態的特性】樹姿はやや直立型で,樹勢は極強,株張りは極大。摘採期の茶芽の揃いは良い。芽数は多,百芽重は大のやや芽数型品種。

【挿し木発根性】良好。

【初期生育の良否】良好。非常に栽培しやすい品種である於,

【幼木の仕立て法】樹姿はやや直立型で樹勢も強いため初回剪枝はやぶきたよりもやや低い位置で行なう。その後はやぶきたに準ずる。

【収量性】多。やぶきた、翁^にほまれよりも多い。

【品質】紅茶品質は中。水色は鮮紅色でややうすく,香気は穏やかである。滋味は強いがさっぱりとしていて,くどいところがなぐあとロが良い。発酵性はやや不良。

【耐寒性】冬期の耐寒性は中やや弱。裂傷型凍害には中。

【耐病虫性】炭疽病に強,輪斑病に強である。クワ|シロカイガラムシにも強い

【栽培適地】九州.四国の暖地

【加工特性】紅茶,一部緑茶。単独では紅茶品質がやや物足りないが,癖がないことからブレンドして味を整えたり,増量用の原料として貴重な品種である。緑茶の味の調整にも用いられる。
