Hongse Xingkong

Hongse Xingkong (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.300. HAR-10-3., a cross seedling (DHW-No.4) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers red, occasionally with white markings, single form, small to medium size, 7.0-8.5cm across with 5-6 petals, petals broad obovate and rolled outward or wavy, stamens united into a column at the base, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, leathery, elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant compact and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Starry Sky”.
