Hongse Zhuti

Hongse Zhuti (C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dr King'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.128. HA-59-3., a cross seedling (DJB-No.4) of C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dr King'. Flowers red, single form, medium to large size, 9.5-12.0cm across with 5-6 petals, petals broad obovate, rolled outward, large wavy, petal surfaces slightly crinkled, stamens united into a column at the base, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, broad elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins thinly and shallowly serrate. Plant upright, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Theme”.
