Huohong Nanshan

Huohong Nanshan (C. japonica). China Regn. #2020-321. China Flowers & Horticulture, 2020, No.12, p.59. This cultivar was bred and registered by Tan Chongping of Nanshan Botanical Garden in Chongqing. It was selected and bred from the seedlings of  'Chuanfurong'. It was sown in 2013 and began to flower in January 2018. Flower red, with occasional white stripes on the petals, double-petaled roses, large to giant flowers, flower diameter 11.0～13.0cm, 18～25 petals, arranged in 4～5 rounds, the petals are broad and round, and some of the petals are sunken. Slightly wrinkled, clear veins can be seen on the petal surface, the stamen base is connected, the stigma is 2 to 3 cracks, the anthers are yellow, the flowers are dense, and they can bear fruit. The leaves are dark green, oblong, 7.0～9.0cm long and 2.5～3.5cm wide, with wavy edges, clear veins, downwardly curved leaf tips, and obvious jagged edges. The tree shape and leaf shape are similar to the female parent, and the branches grow obliquely and appear drooping. Flowering period is from mid-January to late March.

火红南山 Camellia  japonica 'Huohong Nanshan' 中国茶花登录号：2020-321。《中国花卉园艺》2020年第12期59页。该品种由重庆市南山植物园谭崇平培育并登录，系由四川的红山茶品种‘川芙蓉’的实生苗选育而得，2013年播种，2018年1月始花，经连续三年开花观察，生长健壮，性状稳定。花朵红色，花瓣上偶有少量白色条纹，玫瑰重瓣型，大到巨型花，花径11.0～13.0cm，花瓣18～25枚，呈4～5轮排列，花瓣阔圆，部分瓣端凹陷并略有皱褶，瓣面可见清晰脉纹，雄蕊基部连生，柱头2～3裂，花药黄色，开花稠密，能结实。 叶片深绿色，长椭圆形，长7.0～9.0cm，宽2.5～3.5cm,边缘波浪状，脉络清晰，叶尖下弯，边缘具明显锯齿。树形和叶形与母本相似，枝条斜向生长，呈现下垂状。花期1月中旬至3月下旬。
