Meigehong

Records of Camellia Ancient Trees in Chuxiong, p.61 with colour photos. The cultivar originated in Chuxiong's Zixi Mountains of Yunnan, China. Flowers crimson,semi-double form, large, 12-13 cm in diameter; Petals 13-16 in 2-3 whorls, outer petals bigger, inner smaller, partly formed by petaloid stamen. Pistils mostly rudimentary, a few fertile. Flower very floriferous.Leaves  oblong-elliptic, 7-9 cm long, 3.5-4 cm wide, apices acuminate, base cuneate, reclinate in a V shape, margins fine serrate. The flowering season is from early January to late february. The cultivar is easily distinguished by filaments parse in the center, and some stamen change to small petals erect in the center.

性状描述：花桃红色，半重瓣型，大型花，花径12~13cm，外轮花瓣大，花瓣11~12枚，宽圆形，先端浅凹陷，2~3轮排列，内轮花瓣小，花瓣13~16枚，由部分雄蕊瓣化而成，其余雄蕊花丝分裂至基部于花心，雌蕊多数退化，偶有结实，花量稠密。叶片绿色，长椭圆形，长7~9cm，宽3.5~4cm，先端渐尖，基部楔形，叶面内曲呈“V”形，叶缘锯齿细；植株开张，生长中等。花期：1月上旬至2月下旬。

识别点：本品种花色桃红，半重瓣型，雄蕊花丝分裂至基部形成梅心，部分雄蕊瓣化成小花瓣直立于花心。该品种易于识别。
