Yokoyama & Kirino, 1989, Nihon no Chinka, p.184, colour photo and description: Medium size, deep red, campanulate single with 6 round, overlapping petals and a central stamen column with pinkish filaments, joined for the lower half, and yellow anthers. Blooms early to mid-season. Leaves bright green, broad-lanceolate to broad-elliptic, apices acuminate, margins shallowly serrate. Originated in Kurume, Fuku’oka Prefecture, Japan.

淡交社.1989. 《日本の椿花》..184  久留米. []濃紅色の一重、筒咲き、筒しべの中輪、11~3月。花形は端正な筒咲きで、晩秋から咲くことが特徴。[]葉は平坦で癖のない艶葉のため、花の良さが一層引き立てられる。[]  。  [来歴]久留米市の背後に連なる耳納連山に輝く真っ赤な夕陽の感じと、本種の花色とを重ねて品種名としたもの。  文/久富・写真/神園
