» English Description

JCS, 1987, Japan Camellias, No.25, p.10, No.1 Clear, red, single with overlapping petals. Medium to large size, Central sheaf of stamens with protruding stigma. Blooms mid-season. The composition of the pigments of this flower is the same as the red in camellia Yucha (C.semiserrata) from China. Fertile. Selected from wild japonicas in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. Found and named by Seiichirō Sesai, released by Nobuo Sasai in 1978. See: Yokoyama & Kirino, 1989, Nihon no Chinka, p.217.
