Verschaffelt, 1854, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book VI, pl.II: In spite of its English name it is an Italian variety from Bernardino Lechi of Brescia. Its vivid carmine red flowers are small but well formed. The petals are rounded, outspread and convex; from the middle of the centre they curl up in an elegant cup, arranged in the form of a hybrid rose.
