Verschaffelt, 1852, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book XII, pl.III: Obtained from seed in Ghent, Belgium by Mr Mathot, flowered for the first time 1851. Colour a vivid pink with crimson tints. Petals are large, imbricated, fully rounded or lobulate, outspread. At the centre they are suddenly smaller to form a rose-shaped heart. Orthographic variants: ‘Rose Spectabilis’, ‘Rosa Spectabilis’.
