Shi-undai

Ashizawa, Yagorō, 1898, Chabaika Taishū; Nihon Shubyō Co. Catalogue, 1910; Chūgai Nursery Catalogue, 1938, describes it as: ‘White with scarlet variegation, full double, large flower’ and Wada, 1941, Garden Treasures of Japan, as ‘Intense red, large, semi-double’. The first was designated ‘Shiundai (2)’ and the second ‘Shiundai (1)’ by Fendig in American Camellia Catalogue, 1953. However there is considered to be only one cul­tivar as follows: Large, rose-pink, single, with 7-8 petals, outer edges tinted deeper with violet, the inner parts a lighter pink. Stamen cluster small, spreading, filaments light yellow, anthers small and yellow. Leaves mid-green, oval, 7.5 cm x 3.8 cm, apex acute, recurved. Originated in Japan. 日本ツバキ協会2021《新撰サザン力名鑑》，p80. 江戸→埼玉（川口市）産，サザン力系.  花色紫を帯びた桃紅色で花弁の周縁部がやや濃色、時には花弁 に短い白筋が入る 花形7-8弁の一重、平開咲きで花弁が重な る、大輪で花径は8-9cm 開花期11月下旬- 12月 花弁 大型の倒卵形で弁端凹入、縁には皴が多く、時には切れ みが入る 雄蕊55-75本、先端が内側に巻く梅蕊、花糸は淡黄 色で僅かに帯桃、長さは16-18mmで基部の4-5mmが合着し ているが分離して散る。葯は橙黄色 雌蕊花柱は緑白色、長さ 12-14mmで先端から3-6cmが3分岐する。子房には絹状毛 が密生し、花柱は無毛または下から約1/3まで有毛 葉柄 長さ4-6mm、葉柄から主脈基部または中ほどまで有毛、 裏面主脈は無毛 葉身楕円形でウイルス性の条斑が入り葉縁が不 整形となることがある。やや大葉で、長さ5-6cm、幅2.8-3.2cm 鈍頭で鈍脚。浅く中折れし、ゆるやかに反曲する。葉縁には片側 で18-23個の粗鋸歯 葉色表面は暗緑色、側脈はやや鮮明で系罔 脈は不鮮明、裏は緑色 樹性立性でやや弱く、生育は遅い 来歴 1885年の「日渉園茶梅譜」にあり、皆川捲花園に保存さね てきた  文献 1885日渉園、1898芦沢、1932石井^* 1935皆川 1972山崎^*1998名鑑^*2001冬の華^* 1大阪市大、振輿セ所在武蔵丘陵、農工大、花卉研、神代、ぐんまFP、FS箱田、浜松FP、歴博。 写文/箱田直紀.
