Xiaao Saichang

Xiaao Saichang (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari Hongjuan'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.388. HAR-22-5., a cross seedling (DHJ-No.21) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari Hongjuan'. Flowers red, slightly with waxy luster, but the red is lighter in hot summer, semi-double to peony form, large size, 11.0-13.0cm across and 5.0cm deep with 12-15 petals arranged loosely in 2 rows, petals long obovate, central small petals semi-erected, stamens clustered and mixed with the small petals. Tender leaves light purple red, mature leaves dark green, leathery, long elliptic, slightly twisted, cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant compact, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “The Summer Olympic Games' Stadium”.

夏奧赛场 Camellia ‘Xiaao Saichang’ 。刘信凯、钟乃盛、柯欢、武艳芳主编，2023，《第二部四季茶花杂交新品种彩色图集》，浙江科学技术出版社，第388页。 HAR-22-5.杂交组合：杜鹃红山茶×杜鹃红山茶F1代新品种‘夏日红绢’，杂交苗编号：DHJ-No.21。花朵红色，略显蜡质感，炎热夏季红色较淡，半重瓣型至牡丹型，大型花，花径11.0-13.0cm，花朵厚5.0cm，大花瓣12-15枚，呈2轮松散排列，花瓣长倒卵形，中部小花瓣半直立，雄蕊簇生，与中部小花瓣混生，开花稠密。嫩叶淡紫红色，成熟叶浓绿色，叶背面灰绿色，革质，长椭圆形，长8.5-10.0cm，宽3.5-4.0cm，略扭曲，基部楔形，叶缘近全缘。植株紧凑，枝条稠密，生长旺盛。夏初始花，秋、冬季盛花，春季零星开花。
