Zhengzheng Rishang

Zhengzheng Rishang (C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dr King'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.126. HA-59-1., a cross seedling (DJB-No.1) of C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dr King'. Flowers red with deep red veins obviously visible on the petal surfaces, occasionally a few hazy white markings, peony form, sometimes rose-double form, large to very large size, 11.0-13.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 18 exterior large petals arranged loosely in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, turned outward, petaloids mixed with stamens. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, broad elliptic, margins sparsely serrate. Plant upright, branches dense and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Thriving Upward”.
