Dr. Yu Xiang-qin (余香琴), Dr. Liu En-de (刘恩德) and Dr. Yang Shi-xiong (杨世雄) et al., staffs and taxomists in Kunming Insititute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, had discovered and published a new yellow camellia species which is in the sect. Calpandria of the genus Camellia in an open access electronic journal Phytotaxa.
Camellia luteocalpandria, a new species is described and illustrated from Yunnan, China. This is the first discovery of Camellia sect. Calpandria in China. It can be easily distinguished from the other two species in the section by its yellow flower, bracteoles and sepals glabrous adaxially, and the filament 1-whorled and all united without free or partly united filament inside the tube. The new species is assessed to be Critically Endangered (CR) according to IUCN categories and criteria.
