Ashtar (C.sasanqua). This is a chance seedling from C.sasanqua 'Ishtar', which was selected and introduced by Pépinières Côte Sud des Landes in 2013 as an improvement to its parent 'Ishtar'. The scented, single flowers are large, mid-pink striped white, with 7/8 petals in a stable pattern; it does not revert to single colours. The vigorous growth is fairly bushy and upright, and it flowers mid to late season. The serrated leaves are between 6.5 to 7.5 cms long and 3.8 to 4cms wide. The new growth is coloured bronze on dark mahogany stems. 'Ashtar' was included in the RHS Rhododendron, Camellia and Magnolia Group 2021 Yearbook at page 137 with a photograph.
