Hongla Diaosu

Hongla Diaosu (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.340. HAR-14-14., a cross seedling (DGC-No.40) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'. Flowers waxy red with waxy luster, semi-double to rose-double form, medium to large size, 8.5-12.0cm across and 6.0cm deep with 25-30 large petals arranged in 5-6 rows, petals long obovate, edges rolled inward into groove shape, sometimes stamens radial. Leaves dark green, leathery, broad elliptic, cuneate at the base, margins shallowly serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Sculpture with Red Wax”.
