Hongyuan Manfu

Hongyuan Manfu (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.346. HAR-14-20., a cross seedling (DGC-No.51) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangri Guangchang'. Flowers bright orange red to red with waxy luster, occasionally with white markings or white stripes, semi-double to rose-doubie form, medium to large size, 8.5-11.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 18-20 large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, stamens nearly clustered and a few of petaloids mixed with stamens, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, narrow-long elliptic, heavy leathery, urgently cuneate at the base, margins smooth. Plant compact, branches dense, bushy and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Red Courtyard with Full Happiness”.
