Chūbu Tsubaki Kyōkai, 1969, Tsubaki Meikan. See colour plates: Encyclopedia of Camellias in Colour, vol.I, 1972, pl.135; Satō, 1975, Chūbu no Tsubaki, p.55; Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1979, Senchinshū, p.36, description, p.207: Medium size, single, 6-7 petals, white with streaks and broad stripes of brilliant crimson, opens to a saucer shape. Leaves deep green, elliptic, twisted with waved and serrate margins, apex acuminate, recurved. Dark brown dots and streaks appear on young leaves. The original tree survives at the Hōkaji Temple in Inazawa City. Named and released by Chūbu Camellia Society in 1970. Has been confused with Esugata.
