Mengzhong Huanyun

Mengzhong Huanyun (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.298. HAR-10-1., a cross seedling (DHW-No.1) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers orange red with white markings on the middle-upper parts of petal surfaces, slightly with fragrance, semi-double form, medium to large size, 9.0-11.5cm across and 4.8cm deep with 15-18 large petals arranged orderly in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, rolled outward, apices nearly round, stamens diffused, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Magic Clouds in Dream”.
