Pihong Qiaonü

Pihong Qiaonü (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari Hongjuan'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.387. HAR-22-4., a cross seedling (DHJ-No.15) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiari Hongjuan'. Flowers bright red to dark red in autumn and winter, the red color faded in summer, single to semi-double form, medium size, 9.5-10.0cm across with 9-12 petals arranged loosely in 1-2 rows, petals broad obovate, turned outward, stamens united at the base, bloom dense, flowers fall whole. Leaves dark green, leathery, narrow elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins nearly smooth. Plant spread and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “The Pretty Draped Red”.
