Verschaffelt, 1852, Nouvelle Iconographie, Book IV, pl.I: Recently obtained from seed in France where it bloomed for the first time in 1849. Note the perfect arrangment of its numerous petals, which are rounded, emarginate, forming an imbricated, convex whole, of bright cherry-red at the circumference, followed by a delicate rose, then a depressed centre of the same red as the circumference.
