Kyōto Engei Kurabu, 1982, Tsubaki Tokushū, No.11, pp.66, 68, 70, botanical drawing, colour photo and description; ICS., Apr. 1990, Japanese Camellia Cultivar List, p.21: Small size, crimson, sometimes with white spots, tubular to trumpet shaped single of 5 cordate petals of irregular size. Blooms early to mid-season. Originated in the Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Named by Mr. Utsugi in 1980. Note: ‘Shimofusa’ is an ancient name for the northern part of Chiba Prefecture.
