Araluen Star. (C. hybrid). Australian Regn. No. 543. Applicant and originator: R.H. Campbell, 27 Cowan Street, Maddington, WA, 6019. A chance seedling of C. hybrid 'Prudence'. Pollen parent unknown. First flowered 1989. The semi-double pale to light pink flower of 18 petals is hose-in-hose, with stamens arranged in tubular form. RHS 65C. 100 mm x 45 mm. An erect growing plant of medium growth that flowers floriferously mid-season to late. Leaves mid-green, glossy, narrow and keeled, 75 mm x 30 mm. Spent flowers shatter. Flower form and shape similar to C. sasanqua 'Star above Star'. A plant of mass flowering habit. Planted in 'Araluen Park' in WA and displayed at camellia meetings. Application received from the Camellia Society of Western Australia Inc. Registered in 2002.
