Ameican Camellia Yearbook, 1982, p.171, Reg. No.1843: A medium to large, dark red, single C.japonica chance seedling, flowering mid-season to late; originated by Magnolia Gardens, Charlestown, South Carolina, USA. The 6 year old seedling first bloomed 1980. Average flower is 10 cm wide with deep gold anthers. Its unusual character is due to the contrast of the prominent stamen cluster with the dark red petals. Plant growth is upright with light green leaves, 10 cm x 5 cm.
