GSCT23 (Jiukeng) Jat variety. Frutex type. Medium leaf size. Medium sprouting.Originated in the Tanglian village (Jiukeng and Chunan county, Zhejiang province). It is mainly distributed in Chunan and Kaihua counties of Zhejiang provinces and Sai county of Anhui province. It has been popularized and cultivated in a large area in the the tea region of Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Yunnan, Sichuan. Gansu and Hubei provinces. It was also introduced to Guinea and Algeria.
Plant medium size, lack of obvious main stem. Semi-opened in shape, with more dense branching density. Leaves horizontal or drooping. Length 10.4%12.1 cm, width 4.0~4.5 cm. Oblong or long-oblong in shape. Slightly protruding on the surface with acuminate tips. Green in color, glossy, with moderate degree of hard in texture. The sprouting period in spring season generally appears in the third ten days of March. The peak period of shoots with one bud and three leaves stage appears in the middle of April. 6~11 pairs of veins, with sparse and stunt serrations. Shoot rather stout with average amounts of hairs and potent sprouting ability. The weight of 100 one bud and three leaves shoots averaged 40.5g. The peak period of flowering stage appears in the f?rst ten days of October. With more flowers and higher bearing ability as well as high cold-hardiness. Wider adaptability. Rather high-yielding. The yield of made tea in the tea area of Xinchang, Yuyao Zheng and Linan counties averaged 200%250 kg per mu. According to the analysis conducted by the Tea Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1978, the contents of caffeine in the one bud and two leaves shoots averaged 4.09%, amino acids 3.42%, tea polyphenols 20.93%, total catechins 133.37 mg/g. The green tea prepared with GSCT23 variety as the raw material is characterized by its tightly and finely rolled leaf, deep green color with glossy, fragrant aroma as well as strong and brisk taste. The 'Jiukeng Maojian* tea prepared with this variety is a famous superb tea in Zhejiang province.
Suitable to popularize in the tea region in the south-of-Yangzhe and north-of-Yangzte River for the manufacture of green tea. It is mainly propagated by seeds either by sowing directly or by transplanting the seedling. Owing to its properties of low adaptability to plucking, so it is necessary to integrade the techniques of fostering and plucking. Besides, it is recommended to carry out light pruning the slender branches on the surface of canopy at an interval of 2~3 years.

华茶23号(GSCT23) 鸠坑种 有性繁殖系品种。灌木型，中叶类，中芽种。 原产浙江省淳安县鸠坑乡塘联村，主要分布在淳安、开化和安徽歙县街口 一带。1950年以后，浙江各茶区和湖南、江苏、安徽、云南、四川、甘肃、湖 北等省已推广较大栽培面积，几内亚、阿尔及利亚等国亦有引种。
植株大小中等，无明显主干，树姿半开张，分枝较密。叶片呈水平或下垂 状着生。叶片长10.4~12_lcm，宽4.0~4.5cm，叶形椭圆或长椭圆，叶面 微隆起，叶尖渐尖，叶身平展，叶色绿，富光泽，叶质中，春芽萌发期一般在 3月下旬，一芽三叶盛期*在4月中旬。叶脉6~11对，叶齿较疏钝。育芽力 强，芽叶较肥壮，茸毛中等，一芽三叶百芽重平均40.5g。盛花期在10月上 旬，开花结实较多，抗寒性强，适应性广。
产量较高，在浙江省新昌、余杭、嵊县、临安等县种植，亩产干茶一般能 达 200~250kg。 据中国农业科学院茶叶研究所1978年分析，一芽二叶鲜叶含咖啡碱 4.09%，氨基酸3.42%，茶多酚20.93%，儿茶素总量133.37mg/g。制绿茶， 外形细紧，色绿润稍深。香高味鲜浓，所制“鸠坑毛尖”，品质优，为浙江名 茶。
适宜在江南和江北(绿茶)茶区推广。 繁殖方式以种子繁殖为主，直插或育苗移栽均可。耐采性较差，注意采养 结合。投产茶树隔2~3年进行蓬面细弱枝轻剪。
