Ruby Girl

ACRS, Camellia News, Autumn 2005, No.167, p.17, colour photo p.19, Reg. No.554. Originated by Donal R. Coe, Albury, NSW, Australia. A cross between C.reticulata hybrid Nuccio’s Ruby x C.japonica Drama Girl which first flowered in 1977. A large semi-double, salmon rose flower with pink overcast and iridescent colour (RHS.CC.54B-54D), 16 cm diameter x 8 cm deep. Early to mid-season flowering on a compact, upright plant of medium growth. Leaves dark green, flat, keeled, glossy, elliptic, apiculate apex, broadly cuneate base, serrulate margins, 11 cm long x 5 cm wide. Flowers small when opening, then expand to 16 cm. Stamens tubular. Chinese synonym ‘Baoshinü’. Note: Later advice is that first flowering was in 1997.

高继银、苏玉华、胡羡聪，2007. 《国内外茶花名种识别与欣赏》，第273页。澳大利亚Donal R.Coe先生培育，系滇山茶‘牛西奥红宝石’（Nuccio’s Ruby)品种与红山茶‘舞台女郎’（Drama Girl)品种之间的杂交种。花深粉红色，略显紫色调，半重瓣型，巨型花，最大花径可达16cm,厚8cm，花瓣宽圆形，边缘波浪状，中部花瓣大波浪状，花心有黄色雄蕊，花量中等。叶片浓绿色,椭圆形，叶齿明显，光亮，植株紧凑，生长中等。花期早至中。
