Gao, Jiyin, 2007, The Identification....Outstanding Camellias, p.227 with colour photo; Originated around Shifang City, Sichuan, China. Flowers carmine-red, anemone form, medium to large. Outside petals broad-round, arranged regularly and tightly, inner small petals semi-erect or clustered, darker veins visible. Leaves dark green, lance shaped and shiny. Compact but vigorous plant. Flowers mid-season.
Yanghonglan. (Camellia japonica) Synonym: None Originate: Sichuan Characteristics: Plant growth vigorous, with open crown. Leaves green, elliptic, with apex apiculate and reflexed, base broad obtuse, flat, measured 7.5 cm to 8 cm across by 3.5 cm to 4 cm wide, serrate shallow, sparse and not obvious. Calyxes are rusty brown. Flowers are bright red. Petals at outer rows rounded, flat, with apex deeply notched, 25-40 segments. Tiny and regular petaloids by all stamens, clustered in centre, flower shaped as things in a tray, anemone form, diameter is 8 cm to 10 cm, medium floral abundance.
