Qiudong Taohong

Qiudong Taohong (C. azalea × C. chekiangoleosa). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.81. HA-34-9., a cross seedling (DZ-No.42) of C. azalea × C. chekiangoleosa. Sepals with brown-tomentose, persistent. Flowers light peach red to orange red, occasionally with a white marking on a small petal, single form, large to very large size, 11.0-14.0cm across with 6 petals, petals thick texture, wavy, stamens slightly united at the base, ovary glabrous. Leaves dark green, hard leathery, elliptic, margins obtusely serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-autumn, fully blooms in winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Peach Red in Autumn & Winter”.
